Launch of CIOB student/young professional community aims to champion future inspiring leaders…
CIOB’s Belfast hub has launched Tomorrow’s Leaders– a community for members in the early stages of their construction career.
This group of diverse, ambitious and emerging professionals are proactively looking to get ahead in their career and make a difference to society through the built environment. A global community, with self-development an integral part, Tomorrow’s Leaders is designed to support them through their career journey to become inspiring leaders.
The regional event took place at the new Ulster University Belfast campus on October 7, with welcoming speeches from Roger Gillespie, Chair of the CIOB NI committee and Professor Neil Hewitt, Head of School, Belfast School of Architecture, Belfast Campus.
Katherine Dobbin provided an introduction and overview of Tomorrow’s Leaders while Ronan O’Neill presented an overview of his career to date and involvement with Tomorrow’s Leaders. Other speakers included David Bolton from Farrans, recent winner of the coveted CIOB Construction Manager of the Year award for Ireland and sponsor Jim Donnelly FCIOB, from JMD Training, followed by an inspirational closing address by Jonathan Payne FCIOB, Vice-Chair of the CIOB NI committee.
Commenting on the launch, Roger Gillespie said, “The Tomorrow’s Leaders community will play an active role in building the pipeline of quality construction talent. Being part of Tomorrow’s Leaders will provide: access to a professional network of construction industry specialists; personal, technical, and managerial learning and development opportunities and a platform to voice your views on the future of the built environment.
“This is a great forum to start on a pathway to become professionally qualified. I would like to encourage any graduates and young people to get involved.”
The event, which was sponsored by JMD Training, concluded with a tour of the impressive new campus building, followed by a ‘Shaping Belfast’ walking tour, by Belfast Walking Tours and a hard hat tour of the Paper Exchange development by construction company Heron Bros Ltd
