Lowry Building & Engineering delivering quality for over 60 years

From humble beginnings in March 1961, the Lowry brand has grown steadily to become one of the leading medium-sized contractors in Northern Ireland.

Jack Lowry started his working life on July 20, 1949 at the tender age of 14, with a local contractor in Garvetagh, Castlederg. After spending almost six years learning the trade he moved on to work with S J Loughlin as a joiner, in March 1955.

March of 1961 saw the coming together of Jack and his brother Jimmy in business and the formation of the Lowry brand. The newly formed partnership started with two employees – two young apprentices who started on a weekly wage of £1.50.

Following formation, the 1960s were busy for the company with local projects in the private sector. This busy period set firm foundations for the continued expansion of the Castlederg contractor during the next decade, which continues to the current day.

From starting with just two employees, Lowry’s workforce has grown to 80+, with staff employed across many key trades. This has enabled the firm to directly deliver complex, multi-discipline projects. With a focus on delivering ‘best-in-class’ performance across core operations within construction, civil engineering and facilities management, Lowry’s consistently achieve this through a highly-structured approach built on trust, commitment and exceeding client expectations.

Where highly specialist works are required, Lowrys has built up trusted relationships with supply chain partners throughout the region.
