Specialist building contractor, Western Building Systems, has handed over a new 60 bed medical block at University Hospital Limerick.

The new block comprises four storeys, with three inpatient wards of 20 ensuite rooms over a basement level. The first of the wards are already open with the other two wards being opened by January 4, 2021.

Colette Cowan, CEO, UL Hospitals Group, said, “Delivery of this project in such a short timeframe is a great achievement by all concerned.”

Martin McCloskey, CEO of Western said his team was delighted to handover the new accommodation ahead of schedule.“Our team has worked closely with the client throughout this process and the successful delivery of the scheme is reflective of the collaborative way in which the programme was designed and delivered.”

The Tyrone-based firm has also been awarded a contract to build a new covid-testing facility underway at the same location.
