Building services consultants Troup Bywaters + Anders (TB+A) is celebrating its 65th anniversary with 280 people in eight offices, delivering projects in the UK, Ireland and Europe.
TB+A provides advice and support with the design, construction, operation and ongoing management of clients’ property and assets to promote sustainable, smart and healthy spaces. Their services focus on engineering services design, sustainability, building performance, architectural lighting, health and wellbeing, strategic asset management, strategic facilities management, technical project management, construction expert services and intelligent buildings. Each of these is headed by a Centre of Excellence responsible for research and development, training and best practice.
The consultants support leading blue-chip companies from the financial and corporate sectors.

TB+A became carbon-neutral in 2020 and it is the only consultancy with a presence in NI to be awarded the Investors in People (IiP) ‘We invest in People’ Platinum classification, qualities that represent two of the three pillars that guide the practice. “Our three pillars are growing people, achieving quality and consistency, and sustainability at heart,” Andrew explained. “We invest heavily in our people, our only asset, and make sure our whole team is involved in the management and decision-making, not only the partners or the Board.”
According to Andrew, these three principles will continue leading the Belfast office into the future: “Approximately 85% of our projects are from repeat business. We have demonstrated strength across every sector and these values stand us in great shape for the future.”
Progressive growth
TB+A started as a purely mechanical, electrical, and public health consultancy which has developed to support significant changes in the industry. Their first recorded clients, in 1958, were the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital, in Fulham, London. The company started expanding across England to take on prestigious projects in banking, health, government, and the prison service, and extended its client base into retail and leisure, judiciary, laboratories, retail, transport and media.
The 2000s brought more expansion, with new offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, and Cardiff.
In 2022, the practice opened its first European office in Poland to widen its reach and service offering across Europe in the commercial, health and residential sectors.
