Quinn Offsite: a fresh approach to modular construction

Quinn Offsite is a game-changer in construction, offering an innovative and cost-effective, timber-based building method, saving up to 40% on conventional construction expenses.

Owner Fearghus Quinn was inspired to develop this approach after encountering exorbitant quotes for blockwork during his self-build project. “I was receiving quotes of between £15k–20K just to do the blockwork, not including supplying the blocks, said Fearghus. “I thought there must be a better way to do this.”

As a sibling company of Quinn Building Supplies and Quinn Truss, established in 1978, Quinn Offsite leverages its extensive experience in supplying high-quality building materials and engineered timber products.

Using existing machinery from the timber and roof truss industry, Quinn Offsite sought to revolutionise construction methods.

“Rather than directly competing with traditional timber frames, we embarked on a research-based partnership with Queen’s University Belfast, Innovate UK and South West College (SWC) to explore new methods in 2017,” said Fearghus. “This collaboration, known as a knowledge transfer partnership, delved into various timber mass construction techniques, ultimately leading to the creation of the trademarked “Fast Room” – a nail plate jointed timber portal frame, which we officially launched in 2020.

“The uniqueness of our system lies in its ability to craft walls, roofs and floors together within a single timber portal frame, setting us apart from companies which specialise in individual components. This approach has the ability to transform the construction industry, offering builders and clients a more efficient, cost-effective, and integrated solution.”
