CEF members commemorate 75th anniversary.

As the Construction Employers Federation marks 75 years, Federation members share a few kind words on this significant anniversary:

Gilbert-Ash –
The company has a long-standing association with the Construction Employers Federation, with Managing Director, Ray Hutchinson serving as CEF President for two years before stepping down in June. He is currently sitting on the Federation Council. Mr Hutchinson said:

The Graham name is synonymous with the Construction Employers Federation. And we are proud of this fact. Our current Group Executive Chairman, Michael Graham, his father, and his grandfather before him, have all held the esteemed Chair of the CEF throughout its decorated history. As the CEF celebrates its diamond anniversary, it has been a privilege for us to be a part of it, to continuously learn from peers and leaders in our industry, and to help shape and influence the construction agenda in Northern Ireland and beyond.

Heron Bros became a member of the CEF in 1982. Over the years we have attended numerous courses, seminars & events hosted by the CEF, which we have found hugely beneficial. We have also enjoyed participating in and attending the Construction Excellence Awards in recent years which provides a fantastic opportunity to network with industry peers and receive an insight into landmark construction projects in Northern Ireland.

martin & Hamilton –
martin & hamilton joined the CEF in the year it began, 1967, and Chairman David Hamilton sits on the CEF council. He said: “We joined because for us the CEF is a community of builders. The CEF was the professional body, a mark of the company’s competence, and our source of advice for issues such as contract law, HR or training.

“Nowadays, it continues to be a support system to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the construction business; whether that’s legislative changes in H&S or lobbying local government during a pandemic. The CEF is critical to supporting the success and survivalof construction here. And it does a great job.”

On the 75th Anniversary, martin & hamilton would like to commend the CEF; to thank those that went before and to wish success for the future. As a professional organisation of builders for builders, together we can ensure a strong future for construction in Northern Ireland.


P&K McKaigue Ltd –
P&K McKaigue have been a member of the CEF for two years. We saw it as the natural progression for our business and appreciated the benefits and opportunities it could bring.

Since joining we have found the help and assistance offered from the CEF very valuable. Being a member also gives us a positive forum to correspond with our fellow competitors. In these unprecedented times we have found the support from the CEF very beneficial and they have fought hard to protect the industry and represent us all in a united front It’s a credit to any organisation that can boast a 75-year existence and it is testament to the work and forward thinking that the CEF have created as a culture within their organisation.

One of NI’s longest established construction companies, Charles Lavery & Sons Ltd has had continuous representation on CEF committees since the early 1970s, recognising the benefits of maintaining an active involvement in an organisation which does such a superb job serving our industry.

Those high standards of service were set by the excellent leadership of Gordon Burnison, Tony Doran and John Armstrong in recent decades and we wish John well on his retirement. Equally, we are sure Mark Spence will continue to maintain those standards in his new role and we wish him well.
