Conveniently located on the Knockbreda Road in Belfast, it’s a popular site for MacBlair customers. Incidentally, it’s also a location very close to the heart of branch manager, Lawrence Murdock, whose grandfather first opened the site as a builder’s yard for his construction company back in 1938. The location was kept in the family by his uncles, and Lawrence entered the fray in June of 1982. Peter Woods Ltd continued to thrive and grow into a very successful and well-respected business until being acquired by the Grafton group (MacNaughton Blair) in October 2002 – an acquisition that was very valuable in the growth and establishment of MacBlair as we know it today. Lawrence took over as Branch Manager in January 2003, a role and a challenge he was, “extremely proud to take on, especially as it was the role the late David Woods, a huge influence in my working life, felt I was well able for.
The business was built around quality products, competitive prices and above all – a very high level of customer service, something I am very proud that myself and my dedicated team have been able to maintain.”
At MacBlair Rosetta, you can guarantee you will have the opportunity to speak to industry professionals and get some expert advice about stocked products and their uses. Lawrence compliments his staff, “A big part of the success of this branch is the vast wealth of experience and knowledge the staff have. We have several members who have been here over 25 years and a few like myself approaching 40 years. That in itself has helped to maintain that family feel the business still has even as a PLC.”
The Rosetta branch is enriched with a fascinating history and well loved by all of its regular customers. However, it is by no means stuck in the past – it has developed with the years and adjusted to a new era of construction requirements. There are no signs of slowing down for the branch, with Lawrence promising, “many more successful and hopefully exciting years at MacBlair Rosetta as the business continues to change and adapt to our customers’ needs. I enjoy it now as much as I did when I started all those years ago.”
